Our local Fishguard heroine Jemima Nicholas is said to have tricked French invaders into surrender during the last invasion of Britain in 1797.

Legend has it she told local women to dress in traditional red Welsh costumes to look like British soldiers, and armed with only a pitchfork, she is credited with single-handedly rounding up a dozen French troops!

The Welsh lovespoon was traditionally a decorative spoon, carved from a single piece of wood by a young man to present as a token of his affection to his beloved.
