"Recently we have seen a resurgence in 90’s inspired - bold and graphic heavy football kit designs. Brands are emphasising visibility on the pitch, but are also creating unique cultural statements off it. I imagined how the traditional weaving methods in Welsh culture could potentially translate into an iconic football kit interpretation. I was particularly interested in the seemingly simple binary techniques of ‘carthen’ production, and how industrial revolution style input techniques are still used today. As inspiration, I decided to focus on the bold, unique patterns and designs of the world famous family run mill - Melin Tregwynt in Pembrokeshire, West Wales."
