Hello my name is Molly Gregory and I am a women’s wear knit gradate from Kingston School of Art where I studied fashion design. My final collection ‘Y Cymoedd’ took inspiration from my Welsh heritage. The rich history of Wales inspired the concepts, silhouettes, techniques, colour and fabrication and is the springboard for a modern women’s wear collection.
The colour pallet of my work has drawn its inspiration from Melin Tregwynt Welsh tapestry which holds significant heritage of Wales within its designs. I reached out to Melin Tregwynt who very kindly sponsored my final collection allowing me to use their fabrics to create three pieces: tailored trousers, paper-bag trousers and a slouch coat.
Looking at the motifs the tapestry inspired the intricate fair isle designs I created within the knitwear. Within my knitwear designs, I often work with bright colours and patterns making a conscious effort to use sustainable yarn fibres like wool and cotton.
The collection was displayed at the mill from 5th - 30th September 2022 and you can see Molly explaining her collection below
Specific description of each item:
Pleated Tailored Trousers:
The pleated trousers are made from Vintage Rose Lambswool in Slate, the silhouette of the trousers is reminiscent of the work attire which Welsh miners wore whilst working. The wide leg trousers combined with the weight of the fabric creates a striking silhouette which is very feminine.
The Paper-Bag Trousers feature a high waist fit with wide leg trousers made from Vintage Rose Lambswool fabric in Slate. They have practical pockets with contrasting fabric for detailing.
Slouch Welsh Tapestry Coat-
The Slouch Welsh coat is an oversize style cropped coat featuring pockets it can be work in two ways, belted up or undone. It is made from the Knot Garden fabric in Green with grey mother of pearl buttons to contrast.
