"Making it in Wales"
27 June, 2014
A Royal appointment for our diaries.
Its giving us pins and needles in excited expectation to think that on Monday 30th June HRH the Prince of Wales will be dropping in to pay us a visit…(we probably won’t sleep between now and then).
Our apprentice in residence ‘Sean of the thread’ , seen here, will show Prince Charles the ins and outs of weaving. Sean has been learning the ropes here for some time…. to become a master weaver takes more than 5 minutes – in fact the learning never stops. A leg up from Creative Skillset Cymru has helped him start his journey. They are the industry skills body for the Creative Industries in Wales and have developed a pilot apprenticeship programme to support the growth and sustainability of the Fashion and Textiles industry.
Joining us will be a ‘tangle’ (not too sure of collective noun) of fellow Welsh fashion and textile companies and their apprentices, who are part of this pioneering programme….companies like Corgi Hosiery, AJM Sewing, Anderson Apparel and Resist Studio Gallery all acting on, and sharing, the collective wish of - protecting and nurturing the creative talent in Wales.
The Creative Industries in Wales are world renowned and make a significant contribution to the our economy and its growth. Being the host venue for this event celebrating both the Welsh heritage and textile industry and the first Fashion and Textiles Apprenticeship Programme in Wales, makes us feel super proud.
Whilst here, HRH Prince Charles will also unveil a plaque for our newly restored water wheel, to mark its return to its original home (in the heart of our lime-washed mill). If you are ever in this neck of the woods…..come and see the wheel (it’s a beauty).
