Vintage Star Carreg Las Supports Eisteddfod 2026
31 October, 2025
The newest addition to our Vintage Star range is not just a beautiful fabric, it is a tribute to our Welsh heritage. Our Limited-Edition Vintage Star Carreg Las (which translates to ‘Blue Stone’) has been created in support of the National Eisteddfod 2026, Eisteddfod y Garreg Las.
For those outside of Wales who might not be familiar, the National Eisteddfod is an annual celebration of Welsh arts, language and culture, and is Wales’ largest festival. The festival is largely funded by the hosting community, with villages and towns throughout the region coming together to organise activities and raise funds.
10% of sales from Vintage Star Carreg Las will help fund the 2026 Eisteddfod
Our local committee represents the Mathry, Pencaer, and Tremarchog area of Pembrokeshire, and we are proud to support this community in their efforts to fundraise for the Eisteddfod. As an Employee Ownership Trust, creating jobs for local residents, bolstering the local economy, and supporting nearby communities are central to our values. Therefore, we will be donating 10% of all sales from blankets, throws, and cushions in the Limited-Edition Vintage Star Carreg Las design to help fund next year’s event.
What happens at the Eisteddfod? It’s a festival of competitions and performances showcasing Welsh singing, dancing, writing, and music, with participants of all ages from across Wales. The event also serves as a gathering for Welsh businesses to connect, display, and sell their goods and crafts to the 170,000 attendees, welcoming communities from Wales and beyond.
Celebrating 850 years since the very first Eisteddfod
The National Eisteddfod dates back to 1176, meaning the 2026 event marks 850 years since the very first Eisteddfod – a remarkable milestone. Each year, the Eisteddfod alternates its location between north and south Wales, and in 2026, it will be held right here in stunning Pembrokeshire. The spirit of the Eisteddfod is beautifully captured in the organisation’s words - we weave the new with the old and the traditional with the modern, creating a truly unique festival – our National Eisteddfod. This ethos resonates closely with our values at Melin Tregwynt. So, when our local Eisteddfod committee approached us with the idea of designing a blanket to support the 2026 event, we were inspired to get involved.

Vintage Star Carreg Las - inspired by Pembrokeshire
When deciding on the design for the Carreg Las fabric, our Vintage Star pattern felt like the perfect choice. As one of our oldest tapestry designs, first woven in the 1950s, Vintage Star is a striking and iconic pattern that perfectly illustrates the beauty of traditional Welsh textiles.
The colour inspiration for Vintage Star Carreg Las aligns with our beloved Knot Garden Bluestone fabric. The Bluestone collection was launched after our centenary, drawing inspiration from the colours of our mill and its location. Evoking the essence of the local stone, sky, sea, and land, Knot Garden Bluestone embodies the spirit of Melin Tregwynt; a constant presence evolving over the years. Through four generations we have continued to weave traditional and contemporary Welsh patterns unique to our mill, sustaining Welsh tradition and culture whilst ensuring that our designs continue to be relevant to changing times.
Vintage Star Carreg Las takes its colour name from the Presli Bluestones, legendary rocks uniquely found in the Preseli Hills of Pembrokeshire. These striking blue-grey stones were famously transported to the site of Stonehenge by Neolithic people migrating across the land. Important enough to those travellers to take with them, despite the herculean effort this would have taken, our design honours these ancient stones.
A Melin Tregwynt blanket not only adorns your home and keeps you cosy, it allows you to take a little piece of Welsh culture and tradition wherever life takes you. Vintage Star Carreg Las perfectly encapsulates this idea. The blend of our traditional Welsh pattern woven in colours evoking the ancient Pembrokeshire landscape creates a comforting reminder of home. The fabric’s calm and grounded base colour, contrasted with the fresh and uplifting shades on the reverse, makes it the perfect companion to weather life’s storms and celebrations.

Our limited-edition Vintage Star Carreg Las is woven in soft Pure New Wool at our iconic and historic Pembrokeshire mill. Available in throws, blankets, and cushions, with its reversible double-cloth design, you can easily refresh your room to reflect the changing seasons.
